Household Remedies for Heartburn Pain

Sometimes home remedies work best to relieve heartburn symptoms, and they’re often cheaper as well. We’ll take a look here at some easy ways of managing heartburn with items you can find around the home. These treatments are in three general categories: food products, herbal treatments, and lifestyle changes.

You’ve likely heard that milk helps line the stomach. It’s a fact, and it is the reason that consuming cold milk or yogurt is recommended as an easy remedy for heartburn. Milk has antacid properties capable of neutralizing the digestive acids that can trigger heartburn. To assist digestion, yogurt is also an excellent choice, because it contains beneficial bacteria and is also a source of milk. The cool temperature of frozen yogurt will calm heartburn and aggravated stomachs.

Other foods that can help fight heartburn include bananas, cooked rice and raw almonds. Any of these foods will reduce the acid content in your stomach. Alkaline is produced naturally from bananas and almond oil while stomach acid can be absorbed with the assistance of rice.

Apple cider vinegar is one more old fashioned remedy for heartburn that is a favorite of many. Using vinegar to treat heartburn may not seem very sensible, however the fact is that it balances the pH of your digestive system. Add two teaspoons of apple cider vinegar and some honey to a glass of water, which will make it more palatable.

Heartburn can also be kept under control with a number of common herbal remedies and plants. For example, powdered ginger relaxes the muscles of the esophagus in order to prevent stomach acid from entering it. Another common home remedy for heartburn is an herbal tea made from marshmallow root. Drink it three times a day, and it can help to coat the esophagus.

Goldenseal has natural antibiotic properties that are known to kill off the bacteria that inflame the stomach lining and duodenum. This plant grows in the wild in many parts of America, and has a flower resembling a daisy along with fruits that look similar to raspberries. Place the root of the goldenseal plant in a jar of ethanol and leave it for a period of two to three weeks. There are also tinctures out there which add distilled water to dilute the alcohol.

It is not just what you eat or drink that constitutes a home remedy for heartburn. Some very simple changes in your lifestyle can be just as effective. Heartburn will usually become more painful after ingesting things like coffee, alcohol, chocolate, spicy or rich foods, or smoking tobacco. Consequently the best way to prevent heartburn is to avoid these triggering factors. Do not consume any food less than 2 hours before you go to sleep; heartburn can often occur when you lie down. Raising the head of your bed a few inches can also help for the same reason. Following these tips will help you enjoy a good night’s sleep free of heartburn.
